About Hayden
A San Antonian and a Wacoan meet in Dallas and have a son that moves to Austin. This strange amalgamation, pieced together from the farthest reaches of the I-35 corridor, is how one gets Hayden Lindsey, a sixth generation Texan hellbent on preserving and evolving the music of his home state.
Some of Hayden’s first memories are of sitting in an unfinished garage with his father listening to the radio over the whir of a box fan and waving to neighbors through the open door. It’s perhaps no surprise that these days you can often find him in similarly-appointed buildings where character and connection are lent more importance than status and appearances…“if he can find a clean shirt.”
Later on, it was long drives with his mother, taking the backroads through the hill country and on down to the Gulf Coast while listening to the likes of Steve Earle and Robert Earl Keen that cemented an appreciation of the land, the people, and their stories told through song.
The call of music is often quickly followed by the call of the road, and in 2021, Hayden uprooted his life in Austin to travel full time. It was during his travels that he began to truly embrace the troubadour spirit, picking up hitchhikers, swapping stories with strangers in taverns late at night, and chasing down the ghosts of all his cowboy heroes. His travels have infused his writing with a deep appreciation for our differences, as well as the common threads that connect us.
The winding road from Austin eventually ended (for now!) in Sequim, WA. Hayden maintains a semi-permanent residence nestled between The Olympic Mountains and The Strait of San Juan de Fuca. He is enjoying being part of a unique and thriving local music scene and playing all the bars and barns!
For Hayden, music is about celebrating love and life in the midst of tragedy, heartbreak, and loss. Stories help us make sense of the inevitable pain of being human, and in song we can turn that pain into something beautiful that can be shared.
The alchemy of transforming pain into love is what called Hayden to his “day job” as a mental health therapist (likely delaying his music career by a decade or so!) As a private practitioner specializing in intimate relationships, he enjoys a unique synergy between the connection he works to foster in his office and the joy he hopes to bring on stage.
